ROOT QUILT 4 (2024)

The root is grown for 2 weeks, in moulds carved from beeswax. It’s then harvested, washed, dried and treated with natural ingredients that keep it flexible and durable. The inspiration for this quilt design stemmed from the intricate shapes and patterns found in brain coral.

Root is a forgotten natural fibre, more commonly found beneath our feet. As it grows, it buries down onto beeswax templates to take the form of the final piece. From seed to harvest, it takes two weeks for the root to form a resilient textile. This is bio-design in its simplest form - harnessing natural processes to grow regenerative and functional materials.
