Root textile demonstrates bio-design in its simplest terms. As the wheatgrass seeds sprout their root binds below to form a naturally woven structure. Wheatgrass root is cultivated in delicately carved, natural beeswax templates to create textures of marine coral sea fans. The root runs through the templates and takes the form of the templates it grows on.

This piece was cultivated over two weeks and then naturally dyed with the Coreopsis plant. It’s mounted on fine copper wire and suspended from the ceiling with a strong, invisible filament to create a shadow gap so it ‘floats’ as if it were from the ocean.
