Each root sample has unique markings that show how the plant grew over beeswax templates. Roots naturally bind to form a biodegradable, pollution-free, water-efficient fabric that is likely carbon-negative. Production is closed-loop: water is recycled and leftover grass or seed is used as livestock feed.
Root has similarities to paper. Sometimes we like to roll it into a tube to keep the shipping costs down. On arrival, flatten it out and leave it overnight so the natural curl can relax. Alternatively, you can create your own 3D forms by giving it a light steam from a kettle to make it more floppy, then shape and stitch it into place if necessary. When the root cools and dries, it will stiffen again and hold the new shape.
