Inspired by the Giant Barrel Sponge, a species of marine sponge with a diverse form and often a very large, barrel-like shape. Individual sponges within colonies can vary greatly in height, and scientists refer to them as “redwoods of the reef” because of their remarkable lifespan - the oldest recorded barrel sponge is estimated to have lived for over 2300 years.
Woven by Nature
Grass root is cultivated on intricately carved, natural beeswax templates, allowing it to assume the shape of the templates as it grows. The fibres intertwine with each other, creating a robust, woven textile.
