Rootfull’s mission is to change the paradigm and shift behaviours to reduce our dependency on petroleum-derived plastics and textiles.
The problem with synthetic fibres:
Synthetic textiles, typically nylon and polyester, are the backbone of fast fashion. They account for 35% of microplastic pollution that leak into the oceans and rivers through the manufacture, use, and disposal of our clothes.
Microplastics are now being found in almost 80% of human blood samples but recent studies show 94% of Europeans are unaware of the amount of plastic in their clothes; only 31% know Nylon is from plastic and 63% do not know that Polyester is a plastic fibre at all
Getting to the root
of the matter
Rootfull, and more broadly, bio-design, provide a framework for reimagining technology, materials, and systems, guided by the wisdom of the natural world. Root textile is a novel and sustainable way of creating next-gen textiles that are biodegradable, pollution-free, water-efficient and estimated carbon negative.
The World Economic Forum states that we need nature-based solutions for lower material and energy demands. We need widespread use of low-carbon construction materials, and we need to move away from low-cost, synthetic textiles which form the backbone of fast fashion.
